If you ask any employer which main attributes they look for in their employees, “integrity” is always among the top answers. It’s not enough to simply say that you have integrity. It’s important to show it through your actions and the way that you carry yourself.

1.) Always speak truthfully. One of the main keys to integrity is honesty. Always tell the truth no matter what. There’s a way to deliver unpleasant truths in a polite, softened manner and there’s a way to be honest about things you’d rather not admit to while still saving face. People will always respect you more for having told the truth.
2.) Think before you react. Make sure you pause before you make commitments so you can be sure that you will be able to follow through. In addition, think before you react to others’ words and actions. You always want your actions to be aligned with your values.
3.) Work on your communication. Take time to formulate well-thought out responses when communicating with others. Speaking without thinking or reacting out of emotion can cause you to compromise your integrity and damage relationships as well as your reputation.
4.) Learn how to say “no”. Saying no doesn’t discredit your integrity, but not following through does. Don’t make promises that you can’t keep, don’t set yourself up for failure and don’t commit to things that you don’t want to do. It’s much better to politely say no than to back out later on.
5.) Walk the talk. Say what you mean, and do what you say. It’s not enough to talk a big game, you’ve got to act in accordance with your words.
6.) Mind your company. If your reputation is important to you, don’t hang out with people who do not have much integrity themselves. Not only will you get grouped in with them, but surrounding yourself with people with low values will only drag you down.
Integrity is something that everyone wants associated with their name. It is also something that can be developed and strengthened over time. Remember to be honest, reliable, and alwaysact in accordance with your values, and your integrity will never be questioned!
